Canadas CentrePort flying high

Manitoba’s CentrePort is a 20,000 acre inland port offering direct access to tri-modal transportation options – including road, rail and air – an attractive prospect for port and logistics related businesses.

Being strategically located in the geographical centre of North America, one hour north of the US border and in a central time zone, CentrePort is at the hub of key trading gateways – west to Asia Pacific, south to the US, Mexico and Latin America, east to Europe, the Middle East, India and Asia, and north to Europe, Asia and India.

Riva Harrison, executive director of marketing and communications at CentrePort Canada Inc, said to Port Strategy: “CentrePort is a common vision shared by all levels of government, the business community, labour and other community leaders. Having strong public and private sector support has really helped CentrePort move ahead quickly with key initiatives.”

And the new initiatives have so far included building a new $212.5 million expressway called CentrePort Canada Way and setting up a foreign trade zone.

CentrePort expects to make further progress during 2012-13. Rail is an extremely important asset to CentrePort and expanding rail services is one of the corporation’s strategic priorities for the coming year.
