US FMC gives nod to P3

Having reviewed comments from the public, responses to his own submitted questions and a review of the request for additional information from the P3 lines, Commissioner Doyle was won over by Maersk’s “long-standing commitment and support to the United States” and claims that the Alliance will “deliver significant environmental benefits through substantially lower fuel consumption thereby significantly reducing CO2 emissions”.

The FMC has stated it will monitor the agreement activities of P3 focussing on “regular communication … to discuss operations, schedules, processes, and business rules; submission of certain actions by P3 members ensuring independence of individual lines’ and autonomy of the Network Center;… [and] monitoring of rates in connection with actions altering capacity”.

The P3 Network Alliance is made up of Maersk Line, CMA-CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Company.
