Auckland counsels Fiji ports

Ports of Auckland chief executive Tony Gibson says his firm is in the prime position to provide such counsel, given its experience as the hub New Zealand port serving the Pacific Islands.

“We have already given some assistance to the Tonga Port Authority, who came to see us earlier this year to study our control and planning operations,” he says.

However, Mr Gibson says it is too early to determine what full level of involvement his firm might have in any future developments at Suva.

New Zealand Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development Shane Jones is also understood to have been encouraging and in part facilitating Fiji Ports to further partnerships with New Zealand business interests.
