Managing director Jens Madsen said “extra-loader” vessel visits and increased hubbing from international lines at Auckland were causing peaks and troughs in demand, and a relatively high level of volatility in labour force requirements.

“While we intend to retain a significant permanent workforce, we are investigating whether the additional flexibility offered by external contractors could be beneficial in certain areas, primarily from a productivity perspective,” he said.
