Aussie and Brit ports face up to ISPS deadline?

Australian transport minister John Anderson has been reported by the Weekend newspaper as saying of the ISPS Code:

Whilst Control Risks’ consultants will provide strategic assessment and advice on port and terminal security, PMSI, a subsidiary of Eurotunnel plc, will provide training on all aspects of security for Control Risks’ maritime clients. A priority will be ensuring clients comply with the ISPS Code which comes into force on 1 July.

“Given Australia has to put in place 300 security plans covering 70 ports and some 12% of the world’s shipping uses our ports each year, we face an enormous task in tightening port security.”

The UK’s Maritime Coastguard Agency has said it is pleased with the number of ISPS applications it has received but warned nothing less than full compliance will be acceptable.
