Crane issues at Tauranga
A 27-tonne container of avocados fell seven metres onto the ANL Benalla in one of two recent container crane malfunctions at the Port of Tauranga.
Reportedly caused by a gearbox failure, the first incident also damaged the crane’s spreader, albeit there was no damage to the vessel.
The second incident saw a beam-stay break and hang off the crane’s end as it disengaged from loading the Kota Jasa.
The port company says safe operating procedures had been adhered to and neither failures were “maintenance or driver related”.
