MUNZ withdraws Auckland injuction
Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) this week withdrew its objection to the lifting of an interim injunction which has restricted the Ports of Auckland’s ability to hire and train staff over the past 14 months.
Welcoming the development, Ports of Auckland chief executive Tony Gibson described it as a “positive step” which should assist the parties to continue in facilitation and settle a collective agreement.
MUNZ national president Garry Parsloe says its decision followed the reaching of arrangements relating to “employing and promoting stevedoring staff” as well as the port company agreeing “not to discriminate against members of MUNZ”.
Nonetheless, Mr Parsloe confirmed the Court had been asked to “allocate a substantive fixture of allegations that Ports of Auckland have breached their good faith obligations during the period of bargaining for a new collective agreement”.
Three days of facilitation are scheduled for the week commencing June 3.
