Newcastle coal king

The Australian port of Newcastle has confirmed its place as the top coal port in the world, exporting more than 90m tonnes of coal in 2008/09. The value of the exports rose by more than a third to A$17bn (US$14.2bn)

Ports Australia has lauded moves by the New South Wales Government, which has declared the state’s three major ports “significant sites” in an effort to smooth planning and control of the land.
