Newcastle’s ten-strong berth plan
Newcastle Port Corporation is to create ten new berths by dredging 3m cu m of mud, sand and contaminated material from the south arm of the Hunter River.
The project will cost A$50m (US$50m) with a further A$30m being spent on the berth construction. The berths will be designed for a variety of cargoes, including containers, bulk liquid and ammonium nitrate.
Dredged material may be reused, dumped at sea or potentially carted away, NPC said in its application to the New South Wales Department of Planning.
