Port relief on Maersk schedule

The only undecided element of its much-anticipated port call review is the “northern port” choice, with the shipping line now awaiting the outcome of merger talks between Auckland and Tauranga. The review essentially makes Auckland/Tauranga and Port Chalmers the hub ports in the two islands; Napier, New Plymouth and Timaru “secondary” ports; with the remainder feeder ports. While Lyttelton,Wellington and Nelson do not get a mainline service, each stands to gain volume from the coastal feeder network.Maersk handles 40% of New Zealand’s maritime import-export market.
