Townsville berth out to tender

The Port of Townsville is seeking expressions of interest for a private operator for one of its berths, currently being used for general and breakbulk cargoes such as construction and mining materials and molasses.

The port sees the opportunity for both volume growth and efficiency improvements if a private operator comes in with infrastructure investments.

Townsville also wants to see Berth 4 incrementally expanded to meet future demand, as well as an expansion into new trading areas.

Opportunities include aligning the berth with Berths 2 and 3, and catering for a predicted increase in copper concentrate and sulphur and exports and in bulk liquid imports.

When leases of adjoining land expire, there will be the potential to exploit a further 17,500 square metres of land that to support Berth 4 operations.
The intention is for the berth to be a multi-user facility with reasonable access terms.
