VICT latest to apply infrastructure surcharge
The Port of Melbourne’s newest stevedore — Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) — has joined the list of stevedores to apply an infrastructure surcharge.
In a statement to customers, VICT said a review of terminal charges and market conditions was behind a decision to apply an A$48 infrastructure surcharge from the end of March, to all standard import and export full containers.
“The infrastructure surcharge allows VICT to remain competitive in the market as a viable alternative container terminal,” the company said.
The surcharge will be recouped by invoicing road transport operators electronically as part of their weekly invoices.
Similar surcharges have been imposed by DPWA and Patrick, which the Container Transport Alliance Australia has described as “a cash grab”.
