PSA Baltics acquires 85% stake in Loconi
PSA Baltics, a subsidiary of PSA International, is to acquire an 85% majority stake in Loconi International from Polish freight forwarder ATC Cargo.
This strategic takeover aims to develop new rail products to support PSA’s European container hubs and promote a modal shift from road to rail.
The deal, still subject to regulatory approval, will bolster hinterland connections from the Baltic Hub Container Terminal in Gdansk, extending its reach into central and eastern Europe.
“For years, we have paid special attention to developing effective rail-based transport solutions which can serve as a true alternative to road transport and genuinely add value to the ecosystems of our customers, partners and local communities,” said Lidia Dziewierska, chief executive of Loconi Intermodal.
“We believe that PSA is an excellent partner to ensure that these Loconi values remain relevant and that all intermodal stakeholders take better advantage of the untapped potential of rail transport in this part of Europe.”
Founded in 2011, Loconi International specialises in integrating rail transport with last-mile road services and depot facilities for containerised cargo.
The company operates 220 trains monthly across five key corridors in Poland, handling around 250,000 teu annually. Loconi’s network connects the ports of Gdansk and Gdynia with major rail terminals in Warsaw, Radomsko and other strategic locations across Poland.
Baltic Hub, a joint venture involving PSA, the Polish Development Fund, and IFM Investment Fund, is a rapidly growing deepsea terminal in Gdansk.
“Loconi will play an important part in our node-to-network strategy in going beyond terminal services and growing our role as a port ecosystem player, through the development of port-adjacent services, such as intermodal connectivity and digitalisation,” said Vincent Ng, regional chief executive of PSA Europe & Mediterranean and PSA Middle East South Asia.
