APMT Pecém announces major expansion

The achievement cements the terminal’s role as a vital logistics hub for Brazil’s northeast and a gateway for international trade.

“These pillars are essential to meet rising demand and strengthen the logistics landscape in the region.”

The terminal’s growth aligns with Ceará’s broader economic momentum. The state’s industrial sector led national growth in Q1 2025, up 9.2% according to IBGE, with the terminal playing a key role in supporting the supply chain.

In tandem with its operational success, APM Terminals Pecém has renewed its licence until 2049 and announced a BRL 200 million (€31.7 million) investment plan. This includes a major expansion project to be completed by 2029, featuring the construction of a new 350-metre berth, which will extend the quay from 600 to 800 metres.

“With this expansion, we aim to increase our annual handling capacity from 650,000 to 850,000 TEUs,” Rose added.

The terminal also reported a 12.4% rise in total port throughput, reaching 6.67 million tonnes in the first half of 2025, highlighting its growing importance in Brazil’s maritime infrastructure.
