Arcadis wins Canadian terminal design role

The major port expansion will increase container handling capacity at the Port of Vancouver by 50%, reinforcing Canada’s Pacific Gateway and supporting more resilient supply chains.

Once completed, the terminal is expected to unlock more than CAN$100 billion in annual trade capacity while enabling Canadian manufacturers and producers to access global markets more efficiently.

As a key member of the TerraMarine consortium, Arcadis will oversee multidisciplinary design work, including coastal and mooring studies, geotechnical engineering, marine structures, environmental permitting and civil engineering for the new terminal landmass, wharf and widened causeway.

TerraMarine comprises FlatironDragados Canada Inc., Van Oord Canada, Aecon Constructors and Carlson Construction Group Inc.

Throughout the design-build programme, Arcadis will work alongside the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, TerraMarine, local First Nations and specialist consultants Stantec Consulting, TYPSA Inc. and Tetra Tech Canada Inc.

The partners will contribute expertise in environmental planning, Indigenous engagement, geotechnical engineering, marine structures and concrete caisson design to help deliver a climate-resilient terminal capable of supporting Canada’s growing international trade.
