Cranes ordered for Montgomery ICTF

The high-tech cranes will form the backbone of container handling operations at the US$100 million inland rail terminal, currently under construction.

“This milestone marks an exciting step forward in bringing the Montgomery facility online,” said Doug Otto, interim director and chief executive of the Alabama Port Authority.

“Konecranes has a proven track record at our Port, and their technology will ensure that our intermodal customers benefit from efficient, safe and reliable operations.”

Construction on the Montgomery ICTF began in February 2025 and is expected to be completed by early 2027. The project is being developed in partnership with CSX and aims to extend the Port of Mobile’s reach into central Alabama.

Funding comes primarily from federal sources and since its announcement in 2022, the ICTF has fuelled over US$8 billion in private investment in the surrounding region.

The RTGs, scheduled for delivery in late 2026, will feature smart technology to improve safety, precision and yard efficiency.
