Cromarty Forth expansion contract awarded

The project is set to significantly enlarge the port’s 9-hectare Quay West facility to support the UK’s offshore wind ambitions.

“The port is delighted to award the pre-construction contract to Scottish company RJ McLeod,” said Alex Campbell, chief executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth.

“Their long and successful track record in delivering vital infrastructure in Scotland made them the clear choice for this pivotal stage of our most ambitious expansion project yet.”

The contract, awarded through SCAPE Scotland’s Utilities Works and Services Framework, tasks RJ McLeod with detailed design work, construction planning and procurement of critical materials.

Pre-construction is expected to be completed by summer, with full construction starting in autumn.

The project has also received a £55.7 million boost from the UK Government’s Floating Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Scheme (FLOWMIS), which will support the creation of a bespoke floating offshore wind integration and precommissioning facility.

“This contract has gone ahead thanks to the FLOWMIS funding,” said Campbell. “It will unlock investment in Invergordon and support jobs, manufacturing and services across the Green Freeport region.”

The Phase 5 expansion is expected to create up to 320 jobs during construction and will strengthen the port’s position as a leading hub for floating offshore wind, helping drive Scotland and the UK towards net zero.
