DP World to build Uzbek logistics terminal
DP World is teaming up with Tashkent Invest, a subsidiary of the Tashkent City Administration, to develop a new multimodal logistics terminal near the Uzbek capital.
The US$288 million project will be constructed in phases within the Yangi Avlod Special Industrial Zone in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent.
The newly formed company, DP World Tashkent, will oversee the development of an 82-hectare site designed to transform Uzbekistan into a central player in regional trade.
The terminal will include a rail-connected dry port, customs zones, vehicle storage, truck parking and over 220,000 sqm of warehousing.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s vision of becoming a major logistics and trade hub in Central Asia,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World. “The Tashkent Multimodal Logistics Terminal will bring world-class infrastructure and smart logistics capabilities to the region, improving the efficiency of supply chains and supporting businesses across industries.”
DP World will hold an 85% stake in the venture, while Tashkent Invest will contribute 15% of the equity. Phase one, expected to be completed by 2026/2027, includes a 150,000 teu capacity rail terminal and a 63,000 sqm warehouse complex.
The project is expected to reduce logistics costs, attract foreign investment and boost Uzbekistan’s economy by strengthening trade links with Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
