Falmouth Harbour reveals future plans

The plan is part-funded by the UK government through the Shared Prosperity Fund and Cornwall Council’s TRIP programme with drop-in briefings scheduled for 2 and 3 December.

“We know the harbour is intrinsic to what makes Falmouth such a special place, from wellbeing for local communities to the visitor and marine economies,” said Miles Carden, chief executive of Falmouth Harbour.

“A primary focus of this project will be to stimulate economic activity and help create marine-related employment and skills opportunities within the town.”

Among the ideas under consideration is a 100-metre commercial pontoon, which could host offshore renewable vessels, superyachts and maritime events like Tall Ships.

Tristan Rowe, commercial operations manager, said the study has already assessed available harbour assets and identified opportunities for development. “The most exciting part of this is engaging as many people as possible in the Falmouth area and across all walks of life at this very early stage, to see these ideas first hand and provide a real impact on how we proceed as a harbour,” he explained.

As an Independent Statutory Trust Port, Falmouth Harbour reinvests all surpluses into maintaining and improving its facilities, balancing commercial operations with community and environmental responsibilities.

Last year Falmouth Harbour was nominated for a sustainability award in the prestigious BPA Awards, losing out to PD Ports.
