FIT extends concession, improves service
Florida International Terminal (FIT) has extended its concession until 2035 and made significant progress in innovations to improve service.
New technologies and operational efficiency measures include state-of-the-art container handling equipment from Taylor Machine Works along with accident and collision prevention technology from Strata Worldwide.
“The concession extension agreement includes a powerful investment plan of US$25 million by 2026,” said FIT’s chief executive, Justin P. Weir.
“This will allow us to continue providing excellent and safe service to support foreign trade.”
Among the milestones celebrated by the terminal last year was the reception of four Super Post Panamax cranes for Port Everglades, as well as new vessel services from Ocean Network Express, COSCO, CMA CGM and Maersk Line.
The terminal also successfully implemented the Advent eModal system, which is deployed in Port Everglades and improves container appointment scheduling for carriers.
Operated by SAAM Terminals, FIT specialises in handling containers and out-of-gauge cargo. In 2024 it transferred 332,262 teu and 2,825,963 million tons of cargo, and serviced a total of 510 vessels.
