Kandla port plays hosts to MagRail pilot
In a major move to revolutionise cargo movement in India, DP World, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Nevomo have joined forces to explore deploying Nevomo’s MagRail technology at Kandla Port.
The initiative aims to pilot self-propelled, electric-powered freight movement within the port ecosystem using existing rail infrastructure.
The agreement sets the foundation for a 750-metre pilot project – the first of its kind in India – to demonstrate how MagRail can boost cargo capacity, reduce emissions and cut logistics costs by using autonomous rail-based technology.
Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, chair of DPA, said, “This collaboration is a strategic advancement in port infrastructure, enhancing capacity and operational efficiency to support growing cargo demands.”
The partnership aligns with India’s National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti initiative, which seek to modernise logistics infrastructure and improve connectivity across the country.

This landmark initiative is expected to increase yard efficiency, reduce diesel dependency and set a benchmark for sustainable logistics in India’s port sector.
