Rijeka Gateway begins final testing

The 170m M/V Cape Fulmar has a capacity of around 1,440 teu and arrives from Port Said, Egypt. It will remain docked for four weeks during which time Rijeka Gateway’s team will conduct a range of tests including loading, unloading, cargo securing and vehicle coordination.

In tandem, a 500m ENNA Logic train, split into two compositions, delivered empty containers to test the terminal’s rail mounted gantry cranes, to showcase the facility’s multimodal capabilities.

“Two years after construction began, our terminal is now fully equipped and ready for trial operations,” said Peter Corfitsen, chief executive of Rijeka Gateway.

“The arrival of the test vessel and train marks the beginning of a critical, yet exciting phase. Our talented and diligent team is fully engaged in putting systems and processes into practice.”

With over 220 employees and more than 45,000 hours of staff training completed in 2025, the terminal is poised for a strong launch. Export cargo via truck and rail is expected by early September, ahead of the first commercial vessel arrival on the 12th.

A joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Group, Rijeka Gateway is the largest private logistics investment in Croatia. With a phase one capacity of 650,000 teu, it aims to become a strategic gateway for central and western Europe.
