Stornoway Port updates masterplan
Stornoway Port in the Outer Hebrides has commissioned specialist consultancy Fisher Advisory to develop an updated plan for a refreshed long-term vision for the port estate and surrounding areas.
Building on the original 2017 masterplan – also delivered by Fisher Advisory – the new strategic framework will align future infrastructure investments with emerging opportunities, especially in the rapidly growing offshore wind sector.
“Delivering this updated masterplan is a crucial milestone in preparing the port for the next phase of its development,” said Alex Macleod, chief executive of Stornoway Port.
“A lot has changed since the 2017 masterplan, not least the rise of offshore renewables as a key growth sector for the Western Isles.
“This updated approach will ensure that we focus our efforts, avoid misdirected investment, and provide a clear vision for staff, customers, government and our community.”
The 2017 plan guided major projects like the £59 million Deep Water Terminal and Goat Island developments. The new masterplan will assess potential for broader development across the wider island region and will be shaped over the next six months in close collaboration with stakeholders including local communities, customers, funders and the government.
Chris Fisher, director of Fisher Advisory, added: “We are pleased to once more support Stornoway Port in shaping an updated masterplan.
“Our focus is on creating a deliverable plan that supports infrastructure readiness, attracts investment and gives confidence to all stakeholders.”
A public consultation on the updated masterplan will be announced in the coming months.
