Thames Freeport launches innovation lab
Thames Freeport has unveiled a bold programme of global innovation partnerships aimed at driving job creation, attracting international investment and cementing the UK’s leadership in AI-driven economic growth.
In collaboration with innovation specialists L Marks, PUBLIC, MH&A and Rainmaking, the port will spearhead a series of initiatives to scale technologies across logistics, infrastructure and sustainable construction.
“This announcement marks a bold step in reimagining how ports and industrial regions can lead the future economy,” said Stuart Rimmer, interim chief executive of Thames Freeport.
“By harnessing AI, advanced connectivity and sustainable innovation, Thames Freeport is positioning the UK at the forefront of global change. These collaborations underline our commitment to delivering real-world impact, creating jobs, supporting businesses and building a future-ready economy.”
A centrepiece of the announcement is the launch of the Thames Freeport Connectivity Lab, powered by L Marks in collaboration with Cambridge Management Consulting.
Backed by Verizon Business’s newly deployed private 5G networks, the lab will offer startups and scaleups real-world environments to trial their innovations in smart infrastructure at DP World London Gateway, Port of Tilbury and Ford Dagenham.
Thames Freeport has also partnered with Rainmaking and key industry players to launch a Sustainable Construction Innovation Lab, aimed at transforming building practices and boosting energy affordability.
Applications for the 10-week Connectivity Lab programme are open until 12 October 2025.
