WATCH: Angola launches Caio terminal tender

Announced by the Ministry of Transport, the concession will cover the management, maintenance and operation of the terminal for a period of 20 years. Bids are open until 27 July 2026 and are aimed at experienced international port operators and consortia.

“The international public tender launched today reflects a clear commitment to transparency, competition and the selection of partners with the requisite technical capacity, proven experience and a long-term vision,” said Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Minister of Transport.

Located around 8 km from Cabinda, the terminal forms part of the broader Caio Deep-Water Port project, developed under state supervision by Caioporto and the Port Company of Cabinda. The facility is designed to handle both containerised and general cargo, with capacity for vessels of up to 5,000 teu.

In its initial phase, the project will include a 32-hectare operational area, 700 metres of quay, and a deep-water access channel, positioning it as a key logistics asset on Central Africa’s Atlantic coast.

The port’s location near the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo enhances its strategic importance, offering opportunities to streamline regional supply chains and consolidate trade flows.

The tender forms part of a wider government strategy to develop an integrated northern logistics corridor linking port, rail and border infrastructure. Authorities expect the project to improve efficiency, attract investment and generate employment in Cabinda Province.

Evaluation criteria will focus on both financial offers and technical proposals, including development and operational plans. Officials emphasised that the process will adhere to principles of transparency and competitiveness, aiming to secure a capable long-term partner for one of Angola’s most ambitious port projects.
