MacGregor cranes for Chinese MPVs
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order for its supply variable frequency drive (VFD) electric cranes and hydraulically operated hatch covers.
The company will supply three 60 tonne VFD cranes and hydraulically operated hatch covers for each ofChina Navigation Company’s (CNCo) four new ‘Chief Class’ 22,000 tonne MPVs.
Svante Lundberg, sales manager, MacGregor cargo cranes, told GreenPort: “Our new VFD electric cranes, compared to traditional cranes on the market today, are extremely environmentally friendly. They are electric driven, need no hydraulic oil and consume far less power and energy.”
He added: “The cranes’ enhanced efficiency is mainly attributable to faster and more accurate load positioning which reduces the time spent in port, along with a 30% to 35% reduction in power consumption compared to electro-hydraulic cranes.”
The new vessels are scheduled for delivery in late 2014 and early 2015. They will operate for Swire Shipping’s liner division, trading between Australia and Papua New Guinea. CNCo says the ships’ design focuses on cargo handling speed and fuel efficiency.
CNCo also has a series of 12 39,500 tonne bulk carriers under construction in Chengzi, China. These vessels will be equipped with 48 electrically driven bulk versions of MacGregor VFD cranes.
