New gas scrubber from Shipdock
Dutch shipyard Shipdock, and Amsterdam ship owner Spliethoff, have reached an agreement to design and install the largest exhaust gas scrubber ready for the new IMO sulphur legislation.
The impending new IMO sulphur laws require a 0.1% limit in European and American ECA waters. The converted scrubber will be the first which is able to handle several exhaust gas inlets at the same time. Its two main engines and two auxiliary engines will have a combined power of 28,000 kW.
Mr. Frank Louwers, director, Spliethoff, said: “Shipdock offered competitive timescales and rates, beside which we also have an enduring business relationship with Shipdock whereby they handle the docking and maintenance of about ten of our vessels each year.”
Under the terms of the contract, Shipdock’s tasks will include the fabrication and installation of a new funnel and scrubber housing, the installation of necessary piping, pumps and control system and the rerouting of exhaust gas lines.
Shipdock and Spliethoff are expecting high demand for the conversion. The scrubber will be installed on Spliethoff vessel, M/V Plyca, in October this year.
