Athena transforms Newport workforce scheduling
Ensemble, a provider of intelligent workforce scheduling software for ports and terminals, has won a new deal with Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Newport to modernise and streamline its workforce planning.
The Port of Newport is now using Ensemble’s flagship platform, Athena, which uses machine learning to generate optimal schedules, ensuring workers are deployed efficiently and safely.
“Athena has given the team the ability to plan labour by lunchtime for the following day and beyond,” said Craig Stephen, head of operations at ABP’s Port of Newport.
“This provides the management team with the time and insight needed to make better decisions.”
Since going live on 1 April, Athena has become central to Newport’s daily workforce planning. Ensemble spent nine months customising the tool in collaboration with the port’s planning team.
“The deployment has been a great success thanks to the support of the ABP team,” said Cato Davies, chief executive of Ensemble.
“We pride ourselves on working closely with customers to tailor Athena to their needs.”
The rollout follows a successful trial as part of the UK Department for Transport’s Freight Innovation Fund.
