Liebherr launches AI parts assistant

Developed with direct input from operational users, the Parts Assistant app aims to address a long-standing challenge across cargo handling, port logistics and offshore operations, quickly identifying the correct spare parts while reducing costly ordering mistakes.

“Parts Assistant represents a next level of work simplification for our customers,” said Florian Markert, product manager at Liebherr.

“By simplifying and accelerating parts identification directly on the machine we are helping maintenance teams to focus on the maintenance itself rather than the administration.”

At the centre of the system is an AI-powered spare parts recognition function that allows users to identify components through photo recognition, multilingual text searches, QR code scanning or item number entry. The app supports more than 100 languages and can identify parts even when machine nameplates are damaged or missing.

Users can then cross-check results against the official Liebherr parts catalogue before ordering, helping minimise delivery delays caused by incorrect purchases.

The app also assists maintenance preparation by displaying machine operating hours, upcoming service intervals and recommended service kits, including spare parts, consumables and maintenance materials. Lists can be customised and ordered within seconds.

An additional ‘expert check’ feature enables users to request confirmation directly from a Liebherr service partner if uncertainty remains over a component identification.

According to Liebherr, early testing produced strong feedback from users, who reported reduced ordering errors and improved maintenance transparency across crane fleets.

Markert added: “We are continuously expanding its functionality and scope, based on operational requirements and technological progress.”

Released globally from Rostock, Germany, the app is available on Android and iOS free of charge for customers with a MyLiebherr business account.
