Omantel deploys Salalah Port 5G network

Under the agreement, Omantel will deploy a dedicated 5G standalone private core network supported by upgraded mobile sites to provide comprehensive coverage throughout the port.

“This collaboration with Omantel represents an important milestone in our journey toward becoming one of the most advanced and efficient ports in the region,” said Steven Yoogalingam, chief executive of the Port of Salalah.

“As we continue to modernise our operations and embrace automation, reliable and high-performance connectivity becomes essential to our success. The 5G private network will allow us to validate new capabilities, enhance real-time decision-making, and strengthen the resilience of our operations.”

The port requires a resilient communications platform capable of supporting hundreds of simultaneous connections while integrating with existing systems. The private 5G network will enable real-time data exchange across cranes, vehicles, equipment and workforce applications, helping improve decision-making and operational performance.

The solution includes ruggedised customer premises equipment designed for harsh industrial environments and 600 SIMs configured to support a wide range of connected devices and applications.

Delivered as a fully managed service, the network will offer 99.9% availability and be monitored continuously through Omantel’s Network Operations Center and Business Call Center.

The project is expected to provide a foundation for wider adoption of private 5G networks across Oman’s ports, logistics hubs and industrial zones, supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the development of a more competitive, technology-driven economy.
