Smart Mooring goes fleetwide
MSC Cruises has become the first cruise company to roll out Haskoning’s Smart Mooring software across its entire global fleet, marking a major step in how large passenger vessels are managed while alongside in port.
The technology is now live on all 23 MSC Cruises ships, covering eight different vessel classes.
“We have tailored the Smart Mooring platform together with Haskoning to the specific operational needs of the eight different classes of our cruise ships,” said Ian Meachem, port operations manager at MSC Cruises.
“This provides our onboard bridge teams with actionable insights and the ability to reduce the reliance on static mooring or port-side analysis.”
Cruise ships are some of the largest and most complex vessels regularly entering ports, often stretching beyond 330 metres in length and carrying more than 8,000 passengers and crew. Keeping them safely secured requires precise control of mooring lines, which must cope with constantly changing weather and port conditions.
Haskoning’s Smart Mooring platform brings predictive intelligence directly to the bridge. Drawing on two decades of dynamic mooring analysis expertise and highly localised weather forecasts, the system predicts mooring forces and vessel movements before problems arise.
For Haskoning, the deployment represents a world-first: a ship-side decision-support tool used operationally across an entire cruise fleet.
