Trelleborg revolutionises Chinese mooring

Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure is to deploy its cutting-edge AutoMoor technology at one of China’s premier container terminals, marking the first-ever implementation of an automated mooring system at a Chinese port.

The system will significantly reduce vessel turnaround times, boost berth capacity, and improve vessel stability during cargo operations, says Trelleborg.

“By providing advanced solutions like AutoMoor, we’re driving improvements in safety, efficiency and sustainability, enabling ports to thrive in an ever-evolving environment.”

AutoMoor will be integrated into the terminal’s existing infrastructure, which serves the latest 400-metre-long MegaMax container ships. The system will support the terminal’s environmental goals by lowering emissions during mooring, thanks to Trelleborg’s energy-efficient Always Active Mechanical Damping system.

Trelleborg is currently conducting detailed assessments of berth infrastructure, vessel specifications and local environmental conditions to ensure seamless integration. Once operational, AutoMoor’s ‘click of a button’ system will enable quicker, safer mooring with minimal maintenance.

This installation reinforces China’s push toward smart port development and solidifies Trelleborg’s position as a global leader in mooring innovation. The AutoMoor system is expected to be fully operational within months, setting a precedent for future upgrades across Asia.
