Green development in Canada

The EIS prepared by Port Metro Vancouver, provides an analysis of the potential environmental effects of the project and measures to mitigate those impacts.

At the same time, Port Metro Vancouver is inviting qualified parties who are interested in the development of the terminal superstructure and equipment and the subsequent operation of the new marine container terminal at Roberts Bank in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, to respond to a Request for Qualifications (RFQ).

The port said that the new terminal operator will be in place for a period of up to 40 years and will be responsible for terminal facilities, equipment and ongoing container handling operations.

Port Metro Vancouver’s Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project is currently undergoing a federal environmental assessment by an independent review panel, under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012. It is also undergoing an assessment under the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Act and requires other permits and authorisations before it can proceed.

Meanwhile the port is also continuing its field studies during May as part of ongoing environmental and technical work for potential new development sites.

The ‘Habitat Enhancement Program’ is a Port Metro Vancouver initiative focused on creating, restoring and enhancing fish and wildlife habitat. It’s a proactive measure intended to provide a balance between the overall health of the environment and any future development that may be required by the port.
