MoU aims to speed up sustainability
A new MoU wants to ensure faster testing and implementation of sustainable innovation by appointing representatives of key equipment, technology and financial services providers at ports.
Announced at TOC Europe 2018, the MoU between ICHA International and the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) will see the organisations pursuing cooperative projects of mutual interest including sharing of research from ICHCA’s Technical Panel (ITP) with IAPH’s technical committees.
“ICHCA and IAPH have worked together for many years and this MoU formalises that relationship. We look forward to working more closely together to improve safety and efficiency in the port and terminal industry,” said Laurence Jones, ICHCA deputy chairman.
WPSP boost
The agreement is expected to provide a major boost to the IAPH’s recently launched World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP). Guided by the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the programme aims to enhance and coordinate future sustainability efforts of ports worldwide and foster international cooperation with partners in the supply chain.
ICHCA’s Technical Panel recently launched four new working groups on ‘dangerous goods’, ‘digital and innovation’, ‘straddle carrier safety’ and ‘dry bulk cargoes’.
