Verifavia announces cooperation agreements

Each organisation will outsource review of its data collection plans submissions to Verifaria. These plans outline the procedures and systems which monitor fuel oil consumption, hours underway and distance travelled.

Julien Dufour, Verifavia Shipping’s chief executive, said: “Flag administrations, or other authorised organisations, will have to ensure that by 31 December 2018, a ship’s Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan has been updated to document the methodologies that will be used for collecting the required data and reporting that data to the flag administration.”

Similar to the EU Monitoring, Reporting, Verification legislation, the IMO has devised a mandatory fuel consumption data collection system for international shipping, requiring ships of 5,000 GT and above to start collecting and reporting data to an IMO database from 2019.

The organisations party to this agreement are Isthmus Bureau of Shipping (Class IBS), Intermaritime Certifications Services (ICS Class), International Naval Survey Bureau (INSB Class), Marine Consultants, Surveys & Naval Register (MACOSNAR), Overseas Marine Certification Services (OMCS Class), Panama Shipping Registrar (PSR), Universal Maritime Bureau (UMB Class) and Veritas Register of Shipping (VR Class).
