Altamira extension on track for 2011 opening

Three-quarters of Altamira’s expansion work has been completed, with operations scheduled to commence in the first quarter of next year, according to officials.

Security equipment worth $3.68m is currently being installed to detect radioactive substances at the Mexican port, with a further $5.37m needed to install supporting structures.

The US government is supplying three of the five scanners to be used.
