Chile to build new northern port

It will be built in the Northern Atacama desert region of that country. Behind the scheme is the Brazilian energy company MPX Energía.

The facility will mainly be used to handle minerals and Agribulk. However, it will mostly be linked to a proposed $4.4bn coal-fired electricity generating plant, although this project is currently subject to environmental concerns. Even if this does not go ahead, MPX stresses that the port project would not be affected in any way.
