Chilean ports post mixed-volume figures
Five of Chile’s publicly-owned but privately-managed ports reported losses in 2018. Arica, Iquique, Coquimbo, Valparaíso and Chacabuco all posted lower figures last year than they did in 2017.
Nevertheless, for the Chilean port complex as a whole, the ten national ports boosted combined traffic by 5.29% and handled 49,375,246 tonnes. Half of all tonnage was also accounted for by San Antonio.
The Port of Coquimbo had a very poor 2018, with traffic falling 48.7% to 477,493 tonnes. Strike-hit Valparaíso also suffered badly, seeing traffic decline by 13.62% to 10,114,670 tonnes.
Arica and Iquique respectively posted decreases of 1.63% and 1.34%.
