CMA CGM commits to Cuba

CMA CGM, which is apparently the first international company to sign such a logistics agreement in Cuba, will work with Cuban logistics company AUSA on the 17-hectare platform that will include 12,000m² of warehouses and 5,000m² of reefer warehouses.

“The platform of Mariel’s is a first step in Cuba’s land logistics development,” said Mathieu Friedberg, vice president, freight forwarding and logistics, CMA CGM.

CMA CMG LOG will be in charge of the goods unbundling and distribution on the island, where it has been present since 2000 and is one of only three shipping companies to call at the country. In addition, CMA CGM LOG will also oversee the exports consolidation, import and export goods warehousing, distribution of containers and empty and full container storage.

The platform will be part of Mariel Zona Especial de Desarrollo Mariel (ZEDM), Cuba Special Economic Zone, a 4,600-hectare logistics and industrial project area for Cuba.

“It is also a new step in the acceleration of CMA CGM LOG’s international development, which recently announced the acquisition of LCL Logistix, one of India’s leading logistics companies,” added Mr Friedberg.

Set up in 2001, CMA CGM LOG specialises in freight forwarding and logistics solutions in 36 countries.
