Under study are a series of renovation projects as well as improvements to existing port infrastructure managed by the national ports authority Junta de Administración Portuaria y de Desarrollo Económico de la Vertiente Atlántica (Japdeva).

The four projects concerned are the construction and operation of a naval and cruise terminal at the Port of Limón; the construction and fitting out of an intermodal freight transfer and logistics activities area in Puerto Moín; the construction of an industrial park in Liverpool (Limón) to serve the Caribbean; and the construction of a new dock for handling hydro-biological products in Cieneguita, which will be managed by Japdeva.

Planning minister Pilar Garrido noted that the second of the named projects would boost efficiency in the movement of cargo, thereby increasing traffic and generating employment.

The Liverpool project would bring in foreign investment and therefore help revitalise the economy.
