Costa Rica to modernise ports

The government of Costa Rica is intent on modernising its national port network, which currently occupies the 128th position in the world ranking of container terminals.

It sees the awarding of the Moín container terminal concession – requiring investment of $950m – as a key objective.

The government acknowledges that private sector funding is imperative given that the national port authority has to spend 80% of its revenue on salaries, leaving only small amounts for investment.
