Earthquake puts back Manta concession

This prompted the country’s president Rafael Correa to issue a decree the following day, declaring a state of emergency in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Los Ríos and Guayas. Manta port authority then issued its own declaration on April 22, extending the bidding deadline by a further month.

According to vice president Jorge Glas: “The National Government is hoping that there will be lots of offers in the port adjudication process, of which the best will be chosen, because everybody’s wish is to have Manta become one of the best ports.”

The concession involves design, financing, fitting out and undertaking any additional works, as well as operating and maintaining the international terminal.
