La Unión to be offered as a concession

The port of La Unión in El Salvador is being offered as a concession to the private sector, with ownership of the infrastructure remaining with the public sector.

La Union will put its container terminal out to tender

However, a new Concession Law will have to be passed in the national parliament to allow the process to take place.

At present, the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA) invests around $1.4m annually on maintaining infrastructure at the port, whose construction was completed as late as 2008.
