Latest tech used by APMT in Chile

According to Héctor Espinoza, director for Latin America at APMT subsidiary Container Operators, security personnel look after both installations and people, “but it’s doing their work alongside containers, HGVs and other machines [where] they are more exposed to much-higher risks”.

Drone were first used in 2016, when they were used sporadically to record operations, monitor cargo transit flows and container stacking efficiency as well as identifying dangerous behaviour, especially when HGV drivers were seen leaving their cabs.

One drone is now deployed in Santiago and two in San Antonio, where they are now also inspecting workshops and less-trafficked areas and recording situations where containers start backing up.

Drones have night vision capacity, cameras and speakers.
