‘No shortage’ of investor interest
There is “no shortage” of investor interest in the port and particularly the container terminal sector, according to consultant Drewry.
Senior advisor Michel Donner described ports as an “attractive sector” for investors and said that “good projects” should not have a problem attracting the right kind of financing, be that private or public.
“The ownership of world container ports is changing but the fundamentals remain good,” he said.
Commenting specifically on the Latin America market, Mr Donner said: “The years of the fat cows have gone at least for the moment, but in this region of Latin America, regional capacity utilisation of container terminals is still very high and expected to be around 68%-71% in 2018 which is a good figure.”
