Peru to put three ports out to tender in 2016

Perus Minister of Transport & Communications, José Gallardo, has announced that the ports of Chimbote (in the Ancash region), Salaverry (in Chiclayo) and Ilo (in Moquegua) will be put out to concession next year.

The aim is to benefit the country’s agribulk exporting regions.

“[Concessions] will be awarded in 2016 with investment of $478.2m,” he told the Transport and Communications Commission at Congress.

The concession process will commence in the second half of the current year when a call for expressions of interest will be made.

Once management of these three ports is devolved to the private sector, it will bring the number of Peruvian ports no longer operated by the state to eight. Two other ports – those of Pucallpa and Iquitos – should also eventually be offered to the market. They will require investment of approximately $76.5m.
