Puerto Quetzal joins YILPORT portfolio
Turkey’s YILPORT Holding has announced that Puerto Quetzal is now a member of its terminal portfolio after it was awarded the right to multipurpose quay operations in the terminal.
YILPORT Holding said that it took a 55% stake in the Guatemalan port to perform the operations as of October 18 following the signing of a contract between itself and the port authority.
The facility, Guatemala’s biggest Pacific Ocean port, constitutes the 21st port operated by YILPORT Holding globally and the third in the YILPORT LATAM Region.
YILPORT Holding has already begun investing in Puerto Quetzal with four LHM 600 mobile harbour cranes designed especially to load and unload up to super new-panamax-sized ships.
In a first stage of delivery, two mobile harbour cranes (MHCs) are anticipated to arrive in Puerto Quetzal in November.
With their lifting capacity of up to 208 tonnes and outreach of up to 58 metres, the new MHCs’ can handle containers, bulk and project cargo.
The cranes are capable of servicing vessels of up to 19 container rows across ship, allowing YILPORT Puerto Quetzal to service ships of up to new-panamax size with a cargo capacity of up to 13,000 teu.
The new cranes were shipped in the third week of October from Rostock in Germany, and are scheduled to arrive at Puerto Quetzal during the first week of November.
They will be operational soon after the assembly and commissioning of the equipment.
The other two cranes are anticipated to be delivered in the first half of next year.
