Rio Grande ordered to re-tender contract

A court has told the port of Rio Grande that it must re-issue a tender in respect of emergency environmental services within the next six months, or the contract granted to the current provider, Ecosorb, will be suspended.

The legal injunction was originally sought when it came to light in mid-2008 that the original contract had been awarded without a proper bidding process.

The judge has subsequently observed that the port has had enough time to re-tender the contract and has now ordered that this be done within six months.
