Uruguay revisits deep water port plan
The government of Uruguay has re-activated a project that first emerged in 2005 to build a new deepwater port at Garzón.
It would be located on the left-hand side of the Garzón lagoon and be accessed via a bridge.
The proposed new facility will have 8,540 m of berthing line and cover an area of 540 ha. Of that, 200 ha will be served by a quay with alongside draft of 20-22 m, while a further 100 ha will have a draft of 10-20 m.
