Difficulties of striking a green balance

That’s according to Marc Wilson, aftersales manager for Konecranes Gottwald in the UK.

Speaking to Port Strategy, Mr Wilson said that technology is playing an increasing role in setting the green agenda going forward.

“Everybody’s talking about green technologies at the minute, trying to reduce emissions and trying to keep things friendly for the planet,” he said.

Mr Wilson also discussed “more-efficient electrical systems” as a driver for ‘greening’ of port equipment: “The use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to control … cranes is becoming more and more prevalent, so we’re reducing the amount of power needed to get the same result,” he said.
